Learn VBA - New workshop! In-Person
VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) is a computer language that lets ordinary users automate Office applications. You can record macros, perform a repetitive action, automate a workflow, or even build an entirely new application using VBA.
This workshop is for people who have little to no experience with programming computers, but have some familiarity an Office application. We’re not going to make you a computer programming expert. This is an introductory level workshop. We think you will be able to use VBA to accomplish simple, useful actions after attending this workshop. Some attendees will quickly advance to a higher skill level on their own.
If you use any of these Office applications, you are a good candidate for learning VBA. You can use your VBA skills with all of these programs:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Outlook (Windows only)
Visio
Microsoft Project
Microsoft Access
OpenOffice Calc
LibreOffice Calc
After attending this workshop, you will know
Enough about code to get started
How to open and use the Visual Basic Editor
How to control application and document properties
How to write and run your first “Hello World” program
How to make and run macros
How to record macros
How to make your own new worksheet functions in Excel and Calc
You must bring your own laptop having one or more of the Office applications listed above to this workshop. The classroom is 310 Silverman Library in Capen Hall on UB's north campus. This room does not have workstations.
