Introduction to Python: Fundamentals and Variables Online
This is the first part of a four part Introduction to Python series. Python is a high-level, general-purpose programming language designed to be easy to read and write. In this workshop you will learn,
- Environment Setup: Launching JupyterLab, managing notebook cells, and using Markdown for documentation.
- Variables & Types: Storing data, working with numbers and strings.
- Lists & Built-in Functions: Working with ordered collections (e.g., lists of items in your data), accessing built-in help, and interpreting error messages.
No previous knowledge of Python is required to take this workshop series, but each workshop in this four part series will build off the one before it.
If you can’t make a workshop in this series, you can catch up by going through the Library Carpentry lesson, Python Intro for Libraries, that we will be working from and can be found here.

Workshop Setup
This is a Carpentries workshop, and you will be learning by "coding along" with the Instructors. To do this, you will need to have both the window for the tool you will be learning about and the window for the Zoom video conference client open.
More information about set up and installing Python for the workshop can be found at the bottom of the workshop webpage.
If you need help with any of the setup for this workshop, please contact dataservices@buffalo.edu
