I Know You Get Deja Vu: Investigating Academic Integrity Issues through Pop Culture In-Person
Join us in this workshop to examine academic integrity issues through the lens of pop culture. We’ll combine academic examples with entertainment stories from the news to help you understand plagiarism, fair use, and how power dynamics affect the information landscape. Was Taylor Swift's team justified in claiming that Olivia Rodrigo infringed on her copyright? How can Weird Al get away with turning “Ridin’ Dirty” into “White and Nerdy”? Are there blurred lines when it comes to “Blurred Lines”? And, ultimately, how does the information environment impact the way we view stories like this?
