AI & Academic Integrity: What Students Need to Know

AI & Academic Integrity: What Students Need to Know In-Person

This presentation will offer an elementary overview of how generative AI systems work, a collection of basic techniques for fruitful interaction with these systems known as prompt engineering, and a discussion of potential uses of generative AI in the context of undergraduate coursework, distinguishing carefully between uses that are legitimate and productive and those that are generally prohibited or harmful. The discussion will balance an eagerness to explore the ways generative AI can support and enrich the undergraduate coursework and research experience with deep respect and close observance of institutional standards of academic integrity.

No prior specialized knowledge of AI systems or computer science is required beyond elementary computer skills.
