OpenRefine for Humanities Data In-Person
Researchers in many disciplines across the humanities and social sciences work with messy datasets that require cleaning before they can be used for analysis. OpenRefine is a free, open-source, and powerful tool for data wrangling. This workshop will cover the basics of installing, running, and using OpenRefine to explore tabular (spreadsheet) datasets and to perform simple data cleaning and transformation tasks. No previous experience with OpenRefine is necessary, but participants should bring their own computers and be prepared to download and install OpenRefine. Instructions can be found at openrefine.org. Please contact Rachel Starry (rlstarry@buffalo.edu) with any questions.
