Wikidata Introduction and Edit-a-thon

Wikidata Introduction and Edit-a-thon In-Person

Have you ever wondered about the massive amounts of data hiding behind Wikipedia pages? This event, which wraps up the local LoveDataWeek2019 celebration (February 11-15), begins with an introduction to Wikidata - the collaboratively edited knowledge base behind Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and the other wikis of the Wikimedia movement.

Following the introductory workshop (12:00-1:00pm), the UB Libraries hosts a Wikidata edit-a-thon that is open to all (1:00-4:00pm).* You don't need to be an expert on Wikidata to participate in the edit-a-thon: contribution is made fun and easy through The Distributed Game - a series of games that let users update, correct, or add to Wikidata entries. Snacks will be provided!

Join us to learn about how the data behind Wikipedia is organized and how you can contribute to the growing knowledge base that makes information more openly available to the world!

* Please note the time change for this event (previously scheduled for 10:00am-2:00pm).
