How to Choose a Web Publishing Platform (WordPress, Scalar, & Omeka) In-Person
Academic publishing is undergoing major changes, and especially for creators of digital projects, publishing in traditional print or e-book format is often limiting. But with so many web publishing platforms available, how do you know which option is the best for your needs? Whether you want to develop a personal or professional web presence, create an interactive, multimedia website, host a collection of digital assets, or curate a digital exhibition - there are several flexible options to choose from.
In this two-hour workshop, we will introduce three popular web publishing platforms: WordPress, Scalar, and Omeka. For each of these, we will give an introduction to its core functionality, including its strengths and weaknesses, and suggest some cases where each platform might be the best choice. No prior experience with any of these platforms or with HTML / web scripting is necessary to participate in this workshop.
